In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Wave 1, you can prevent specific items or item variants from being used in production by blocking them. This feature helps maintain quality control, manage discontinued materials, and ensure production processes align with business requirements.
How to
Block an Item or Variant for Production
Blocking an
item or variant in Business Central is a straightforward process. Follow these
steps:
1.
Navigate
to the relevant page:
o Item Card
o Item Variants
o Item Variant Card
2.
Set
the Production Blocked field: This option prevents the item or variant from
being selected in production-related processes.
3.
Set
the Block on Item Templates: Configure the production block setting on the Item
Template page if you want new items created from a template to inherit it.
Impact of
Blocking Items in Production
When an item
or variant is production-blocked, it is restricted from key manufacturing
activities, ensuring that it does not disrupt ongoing production process.
Here’s where the restriction applies:
Unavailable
for Selection on:
- Production Order Header (all statuses)
- Production Order Lines
Actions That
Cannot Be Performed with Blocked Items:
- Posting output in the Output
Journal or Production Journal
- Refreshing a Production Order
- Replanning a Production Order
- Calculating subcontracts in the Subcontracting
Worksheet (Blocked items will be skipped)
Planning
Considerations
Even though
blocked items or variants appear in Requisition and Planning Worksheets, you
won’t be able to carry out the action that creates production orders. If you
decide to block an item, consider updating its replenishment method to exclude
it from planning calculations.
